About EaCo Chem C-Tar Melt

Water-Rinseable Tar, Asphalt, and Road Grime Remover

EaCo Chem C-Tar Melt is a deep-penetrating tar remover that softens and releases asphalt, road film, tire marks, and caulk bleed without damaging the surface underneath. It works on wood, metal, brick, and masonry, and it won’t raise the grain or discolor the substrate on its own. The catch that trips up first-time users: water stops the reaction. C-Tar Melt goes on dry and undiluted, does its work, and then gets rinsed – the rinse is the off switch, not part of the application.

Key Features

  • Water Is the Kill Switch: Do not dilute. Adding water halts the penetrating action entirely. Apply undiluted, let it work, then rinse to stop it exactly when you want it stopped — useful control on paint and delicate finishes.
  • Removes Caulk Bleed on Aluminum: Pulls silicone and caulk bleed staining off aluminum window frames without harming adjacent glass. If you do storefront and commercial glass, this is the job it earns its keep on.
  • Safe on Wood, Metal, Brick, and Masonry: Won’t raise wood grain or discolor substrates when used as directed.
  • Fleet and Equipment Work: Removes tar and road grime from truck beds, fenders, wheels, battery boxes, and trailers.
  • Biodegradable: Aids separation of tar residue from rinse water if runoff is contained and held briefly, which simplifies responsible disposal on the job.
  • Skin-Tolerant Chemistry: Won’t burn skin on contact, though it will dry it out with repeated exposure. Gloves and goggles still required.

Application Guidelines

  • Always used undiluted. No mixing, no ratios.
  • On painted vehicles and finished surfaces: apply a small amount to a cloth and wipe. Do not spray and walk away — this is a strong penetrant and paint softening can occur. Test first, work in small sections, and check the reaction before leaving it on the surface.
  • On porous masonry: spray on and dwell approximately five minutes. Two consecutive applications typically release better than one. Do not rinse between applications.
  • Heavy buildup: dwell times scale with coating thickness. Most materials release inside fifteen minutes; heavy layers may need an extended soak.
  • Rinse with cold water at low pressure. Avoid pressures that mark the surface — follow the substrate manufacturer’s recommended PSI when in doubt.

Caution: Do not use a zero-degree nozzle. Do not allow C-Tar Melt to dry on the surface. Keep it rinsed off of glass at all times. Contains petroleum hydrocarbon — use with adequate ventilation, and wear solvent-resistant gloves and eye protection.

Coverage

EaCo Chem’s product spec sheet lists 100–250 square feet per gallon, depending on surface porosity, texture, and stain severity. Note that the current 2025 data sheet omits a figure and says testing determines the real rate — treat 100–250 as a planning number, not a guarantee.
